Do you need to be Microsoft certified in order to start your own Computer repair service?
I just want to do PC repair services on the side. I am not looking to quit my daytime job, or even invest in a store to run a business. I see technicians advertise themselves on pennysaver, recycler, newspaper, etc. about calling them for repair services. I want to do the same thing. Do you need an A+ or any other Certs in order to advertise yourself, or can you do it without any certs?
You technically don’t need any sort of certification to do PC repairs. Many of the techs I know are super dudes who can strip a computer apart and tell you what’s wrong simply by the smell of the circuits (joke)… but they have diddly squat when it comes to any sort of certification. Some folks are just not good when it comes to tests.
HOWEVER… certification is a good way of verifying your competence in a given field. It’s also critical if you want to get noticed by corporate clients and you intend to take on bigger jobs which may include networking and more complex tasks, certification is the way to go. Some companies DO have to comply with internal policies that state they can only give jobs to certified vendors.
