When reading a music sheet, how do I know what octave to play a note in for a guitar?
I’m trying to learn music theory for the guitar. I know how to read the notes and beats, but how do I tell what octave to play the note in? For example, the note E can be played with an open 6 string or on the 2nd fret of the D string. They’re the same note, but they sound different because they’re different octaves. So how do I tell which one to play from the music sheet? thanks!
for the guitar i dont know the sheet music, ill be honest with you
but i did take a music theory class and all the instruments work the same way. . .
the highest pitch note is going to be the highest on the music staff and the lowest note is going to be the lowest on the staff. there should be 3 of each note. one low pitch one middle pitch and one high pitch. the note you should bass everything off of is called ‘middle C’ i think thats on the low E string 5th fret, but im not positive on that one.
for instance when playing piano the C note in the middle of the keyboard is ‘middle C’, middle C is the note inbetween the treble and bass clefs (hints why they call it middle C) which just also happens to be in the middle of the piano. my guess is that its also in the middle of the guitar somewhere. so i was probably wrong earlier then when i said it was on the E string 5th fret. . . thats probably the low C.
if you know the notes on the guitar You Can figure it out better than me (im just guessing at those). but i hope you get what im trying to teach you here
hope ive been of help to ya.
